Speaking to TNT Sports after the match, Van Dijk discussed Abdoulaye Doucoure’s provocative celebration, which he felt was aimed at the Liverpool fans. Curtis Jones confronted Doucoure, believing his actions were inappropriate.
The Liverpool captain then criticized referee Michael Oliver, stating that he “didn’t have the game under control” and admitted to telling the referee as much.
“Doucoure is entitled to celebrate,” said Van Dijk. “But he wanted to provoke our fans, and Curtis thought that wasn’t the right thing to do. Then there was a tussle. The referee didn’t have the game under control, I said that to him. Both teams had to deal with it.”

Arne Slot also saw red, and Sky Sports journalist Lewis Jones explained the cause of the Liverpool manager’s frustration at full-time.
Jones revealed that Liverpool were particularly upset with Oliver’s decision not to award a foul for a push by Beto on Ibrahima Konate in the build-up to Everton’s goal.
“In the heat of the moment, Liverpool were furious at the decision not to give a foul for Beto’s push on Konate,” Jones explained on Sky Sports. “That’s why Arne Slot was so angry at the final whistle and received a red card. It was a massive moment in the game for several reasons.”
