“FA Drops Bombshell: Arne Slot, Liverpool, and Everton HIT with Major Charges After Merseyside Derby Chaos
Arne Slot was shown a red card following Liverpool’s 2-2 draw against Everton in the Merseyside derby.
The Football Association (FA) has confirmed that both Liverpool and Everton have been charged after a clash occurred following the final whistle of the heated derby.
The altercation began after James Tarkowski scored a dramatic 98th-minute equaliser to secure a 2-2 draw for Everton in their final encounter at Goodison Park with Liverpool.
Everton midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure celebrated in front of the away supporters, which led to Curtis Jones pushing him. This sparked a confrontation between players from both teams. Both Doucoure and Jones were shown second yellow cards and sent off, resulting in one-match bans for each.
Following the incident, both clubs have been charged for failing to control their players and have three days to appeal.
The clubs could face fines, with similar incidents earlier this season seeing Nottingham Forest fined £125,000 and Chelsea £40,000.
Liverpool head coach Arne Slot and assistant Sipke Hulshoff were also shown red cards by referee Michael Oliver. Both have been charged and could face touchline bans.
However, as they have the right to appeal, they are allowed to be on the sideline for Liverpool’s next match against Wolverhampton Wanderers at Anfield on Sunday (2pm GMT kick-off).
An FA statement read: “Everton, Liverpool, Arne Slot, and Sipke Hulshoff have been charged following the Premier League fixture between the clubs on Wednesday, 12 February.”
“It is alleged that both clubs failed to ensure their players and/or technical area members behaved appropriately and/or provoked others after the final whistle.”
“The Liverpool manager is alleged to have acted improperly and/or used insulting or abusive language towards both the match referee and an assistant referee after the match.”
“The Liverpool assistant manager is alleged to have acted improperly and/or used insulting or abusive language towards a match official, leading to his dismissal.
It is further alleged that he continued to act improperly and/or use insulting or abusive language after being sent off.”
“Everton, Liverpool, Arne Slot, and Sipke Hulshoff have until Wednesday, 19 February, to respond.”
