Philippe Clement has little left to fight for at Rangers as the rest of the season appears lackluster, with European competition being the only remaining focus.
The Belgian manager secured his most significant result of the season by overcoming his fellow countrymen Union Saint-Gilloise, propelling Rangers into the last 16 of the Europa League.
However, the mood at Ibrox was dampened after a shocking Scottish Cup exit to Queen’s Park last week. The League Cup final, despite being entertaining, ended in heartbreak against Celtic (and the officials), while the league title race is effectively over.

Grant also speculates that the board’s hesitation to dismiss Clement could be due to financial constraints.
He raised doubts about whether Rangers can afford to pay Clement’s compensation or the cost of hiring a replacement from another club, as well as investing in new players for the squad.
“The manager must be scratching his head, but I genuinely can’t see any way back for him. There’s nothing left to fight for, and they can’t just keep accepting this,” Grant said on the Go Radio Football Show (13 February).
“He himself admitted that he’s won three trophies out of 25. That’s a big problem for Rangers, but do they have the finances to bring in a manager from another club, or to hire a new manager and keep buying players?
“At Rangers, it’s all about winning trophies – nothing else.”
Clement’s situation mirrors Postecoglou’s at Tottenham Not long ago, Rangers played out an exciting 1-1 draw with Tottenham Hotspur at Ibrox, a match they were unlucky not to win.
Despite the criticism Ange Postecoglou received following his return to Glasgow with Spurs – a manager who has recently contributed to Rangers’ struggles in domestic competitions – his situation is quite similar to Clement’s.
Both teams have underperformed in their respective leagues this season, falling well short of expectations, with a few standout results to avoid complete embarrassment. For Rangers, the notable one was the 2-5 loss to Celtic, while Spurs earned a memorable 4-0 win over Manchester City.
Now, both teams are left with just European competition to focus on. Tottenham were knocked out of the FA Cup by Aston Villa, the same day Rangers suffered their upset defeat in the Scottish Cup to Queen’s Park.
Clement will continue to fight on, but it’s likely he’ll feel more relaxed and optimistic once the inevitable decision is made to part ways with him – and the same applies to the Govan fans who are calling for a new direction.
