“With all due respect” – Amorim snubs Tottenham, explains what makes him better than Postecoglou
Ahead of the Sunday afternoon clash between Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur, manager Ruben Amorim reflected on the differences between the two clubs as they prepare for the “battle of the wounded.”
The match, set to take place in North London, sees just two points separating the sides in the league standings. While the small gap between the clubs is not unusual—having often competed for similar goals in previous seasons—their current positions (13th and 14th) are surprisingly low.
This fixture presents an opportunity for one of the teams to at least provide a morale boost to their frustrated fanbase by securing a win against another member of the traditionally-established ‘Big Six.’
In his pre-match press conference, Amorim discussed the challenging situations both clubs are facing but emphasized that he feels greater pressure than Spurs’ manager, Ange Postecoglou, due to United’s larger stature in both domestic and global football.
“Of course, I sympathize with Postecoglou, especially because he is a good person and a very good coach. He wants to play football the right way, and for me, that’s admirable,” said the 39-year-old in an interview with Sky Sports. “When we choose this profession, it’s filled with great moments, but you also have to feel the pressure when you don’t win.”
Amorim added, “With all due respect, I’m at a bigger club with greater pressure. I understand the bond Postecoglou has with his team, and he’s an important coach to follow in terms of his principles.”

Amorim also expressed admiration for Postecoglou but highlighted his own tactical flexibility, which he attributes to his Portuguese heritage. However, he acknowledged that he has yet to fully demonstrate this adaptability since arriving at Manchester United.
“I’m a huge fan of Ange Postecoglou. I’m from a different culture, I’m Portuguese, and all Portuguese coaches are known for their ability to adapt. I adapt,” he said. “The simple truth is that I currently use one system because I believe that by focusing on it, you can play in different systems simultaneously. That’s my approach.”
However, Amorim was also candid about United’s struggles: “But we are not winning games, and I understand the connection between me and Postecoglou—we have the same problems.”
