“Agbonlahor’s SHOCKING ‘Inevitable’ Prediction for Sunderland vs Leeds United – You Won’t Believe What He Said
Sunderland faces a challenging match against Leeds United on Monday evening, with Gabby Agbonlahor predicting that a win for Leeds is “inevitable.”
The Black Cats head to Elland Road knowing that a loss would leave them eight points behind the automatic promotion spots with just 13 games remaining in the Championship. Leeds, currently seven points ahead of Sunderland, will be aiming to return to the top of the league with a positive result.
Although Sunderland will be eager to disrupt Daniel Farke’s side, Agbonlahor isn’t optimistic about their chances. Speaking on talkSPORT on February 17th, the former Aston Villa striker said, “Leeds have won 12 of their last 13 home games, while Sunderland have won their last two away matches. It’s a tough game, but Elland Road seems like a fortress. The inevitable result is a Leeds win tonight.”
Sunderland’s recent record against Leeds is generally strong, having lost just one of their last eight encounters since 2006. That defeat came in 2017 when Simon Grayson’s side suffered a 2-0 loss at Elland Road during the early stages of a relegation battle. Earlier this season, the two teams played out a dramatic 2-2 draw at the Stadium of Light, with Leeds’ goalkeeper Illan Meslier making a costly error late in the game, allowing Sunderland to equalize.
In response to Agbonlahor’s prediction, former Leeds striker Jermaine Beckford took a more cautious approach to the upcoming match and the Whites’ promotion ambitions. He commented, “As a Leeds fan and ex-player, we can’t get too carried away. Last season we saw Ipswich overtake Leeds, and despite a strong points advantage, it didn’t guarantee promotion. We must stay focused and avoid complacency.”
Later, Agbonlahor emphasized the importance of Monday’s game for Sunderland’s promotion hopes, adding that he would be pleased if the Black Cats proved him wrong by securing all three points. When asked by host Jeff Stelling whether a loss would jeopardize Sunderland’s chances of automatic promotion, Agbonlahor replied, “Absolutely. A defeat would leave them 10 points behind Leeds.”
He also expressed his support for Sunderland, recalling their struggles in recent years. “I just want to see Sunderland succeed. After watching their documentary and seeing their journey from League One back up, they’re a team we’re rooting for in the Championship. It’d be great to see them make it back.”
