“Absolutely”- Chris Sutton Drops Shocking Premier League Claim After David Moyes’ Incredible Transformation at Everton
David Moyes has quickly brought a positive atmosphere to Everton since taking over from Sean Dyche in January.
At the beginning of January, Everton faced the real threat of relegation with Dyche still in charge.
However, Moyes’ return has injected new life into the team, leading them to four wins and one draw from their six Premier League games since his arrival.
Michael Ball has noted that the Toffees are now closer to a European qualification spot than the relegation zone, and Chris Sutton believes this could be a sign of things to come.
Sutton was impressed by the team’s progress, calling the 2-1 win against Crystal Palace on February 15 a “big” result and noting that Moyes has been “flying.”
“Another big win for Everton and David Moyes, and he’s absolutely flying, isn’t he?” Sutton said on the Daily Mail’s It’s All Kicking Off podcast on February 17.
Daily Mail correspondent Mike Keegan also supported Sutton, taking a jab at colleague Ian Ladyman, who previously suggested that Everton should have hired Graham Potter instead of Moyes. Keegan remarked, “Absolutely.

Sutton further highlighted that Everton now has a better chance of qualifying for Europe than facing relegation, even suggesting they could challenge for the title next season.
“They probably have a better chance of qualifying for Europe than going down right now,” Sutton said. “12 goals in six games under Moyes, they’re scoring freely. Who knows what might happen next season? They could be contenders.”
Everton back on track?
Under Moyes, Everton once competed for European spots before he left for Manchester United in 2013. However, the club has since struggled, battling relegation due to years of mismanagement under Farhad Moshiri’s ownership.
Now, with the Friedkin Group taking over and Moyes back at the helm, there is a renewed sense of optimism around the club.
While competing for the Premier League title as Sutton suggested may be a stretch, there are plenty of reasons for Everton fans to feel hopeful about their future, especially with the new Bramley-Moore Dock stadium opening next season.
If the Friedkin Group continues to make smart moves in the transfer market, there’s no reason why Moyes can’t lead Everton back to competing for European places in the near future.
In the winter transfer window, the Blues were limited to just one signing, Carlos Alcaraz, due to financial restrictions, but with more flexibility expected in the summer, Everton could strengthen further.
