Tottenham’s Dejan Kulusevski doesn’t deserve to start the second half against Ipswich.
Ange Postecoglou took a big gamble by leaving James Maddison on the bench for the Premier League clash at Portman Road on Saturday (22 February).
Despite Ipswich’s strong start, Spurs weathered the storm and quickly built a two-goal lead, thanks to a brace from Brennan Johnson, with both goals set up by Son Heung-min. It looked like Postecoglou’s team was on course for a comfortable afternoon, but Omari Hutchinson’s late goal brought Ipswich back into the game, forcing Postecoglou to consider changes.
Kulusevski should be substituted at halftime for Tottenham v Ipswich
While Son and Johnson worked well together in the first half to put Spurs ahead, Kulusevski was largely ineffective in attack.
The Swedish winger completed just 79% of his passes, with only one key pass, and failed to succeed in any of his dribble attempts. He also won just three of his eight ground duels, was dribbled past twice, and lost possession eight times.
Given his poor performance, Postecoglou should make a change at halftime. After Maddison’s match-winning goal in Tottenham’s 1-0 victory over Manchester United on Sunday (16 February), the English midfielder should be ready to step in and make a difference.
Tottenham must hold on for the win against Ipswich
Postecoglou faces increasing pressure in North London.
While Spurs took an early two-goal lead, if they allow Ipswich to mount a comeback, serious questions will be raised about Postecoglou’s tactics and decisions.
