“Philippe Clement Issues Shock ‘APOLOGY’ message to Furious Rangers Fans, as pundits predict his days are numbered
Philippe Clement, visibly distressed, offered a meek apology to Rangers fans following their disappointing 2-0 defeat to St Mirren, with pundits noting he appeared to be a ‘beaten’ man who sensed his time at the helm was coming to an end.
The Belgian watched as his side suffered a lackluster loss to the Saints, with boos echoing around Ibrox from the remaining fans at full-time.
The defeat was even more frustrating given Celtic’s earlier loss to Hibernian, which presented a prime opportunity to capitalize.
Already under significant pressure after the team’s early exit from the Scottish Cup at the hands of Queen’s Park, Clement’s future is now even more uncertain, especially with the San Francisco 49ers’ investment group in advanced negotiations to acquire a major stake in the club.
A managerial change now seems inevitable. When asked if he had a message for the angry supporters after the game, Clement responded on BBC Sportsound: “I can only say sorry, and apologize on behalf of myself and the team.
This is not the level Rangers teams should be showing on the pitch. We all know this was far below the expectations we all have.”
“I am always fighting until the end. I wanted to be on the field to fight, but since I can’t, my job is to do it from the sidelines and ensure the team has the right mentality. That was not the case today, so I need to find a solution.”
Clement’s response lacked conviction, and when asked about the possibility of his dismissal, he replied with a subdued: “I’m not into hypothetical questions.”
His resigned tone caught radio pundits off guard. Former Partick Thistle and Clyde manager Ian McCall remarked: “He’s clearly a decent man, but he sounds defeated.
His words were slower, and if a takeover is coming, I don’t think the current board can do anything about it. But today feels like the end. Some managers lose their jobs and it feels unjust, but with others, it’s clear why. He sounds beaten. The players didn’t show any fight for him. If I were Clement, I’d be extremely worried about what’s next.”
Billy Dodds added: “I would be shocked if he survives. He sounded exhausted.
Sometimes, you can just tell when a manager feels it’s all coming to an end. I get the impression that’s where Clement is both mentally and physically. His responses suggested he’s already resigned to it.”
