The 22-year-old left his manager, teammates, and fans waiting as he struggled to remove the piece of jewelry.
Unable to come on until the ring was removed, Bueno had to return to the pitch for another minute or two.
Commentator shocked by the delay
The situation caught commentators off guard. Now Sports’ Gary Taphouse expressed disbelief at Djiga’s lack of preparation for his big moment.
“Well, this is slightly shambolic,” Taphouse remarked as he watched Djiga struggle with his ring on the touchline.
With less than 20 minutes left in a crucial match, Djiga should have been ready to help his team, but instead, he was distracted by a piece of jewelry that should not have been on him during the game.
Pereira will undoubtedly hope this doesn’t happen again in future matches.
