Robbie Savage has criticized a “ridiculous” incident involving Leeds United manager Daniel Farke at Elland Road this week.
Leeds will face Sheffield United at Bramall Lane on Monday (24 February), following a dramatic 2-1 victory over Sunderland.
Pascal Struijk emerged as the unlikely hero with two goals from the bench, including a 95th-minute winner, helping Leeds maintain a two-point lead at the top.
Farke banned for Leeds clash v Sheffield United
The Elland Road crowd erupted in celebration as Struijk scored the winner, with Farke caught up in the excitement.
However, referee Stuart Attwell, who replaced Craig Pawson late in the game, issued Farke a yellow card for stepping onto the pitch to celebrate. As a result, Farke will be suspended for the important match at Sheffield United.
In his column for The Mirror (22 February), Savage expressed his frustration with the decision.
“I loved the passion of Farke’s celebration after Pascal Struijk’s 95th-minute winner against promotion rivals Sunderland,” Savage wrote.
“And it is absolutely ridiculous that he will serve a touchline ban for Monday night’s top-of-the-table clash with Sheffield United just because referee Stuart Attwell gave him a yellow card for stepping onto the pitch to celebrate. What a nonsense.”
Leeds can move step closer to promotion at Bramall Lane
Leeds can take a major step toward promotion at Bramall Lane. They are the favorites to win, though it won’t be easy. If you ask most traveling fans, they would likely settle for a point against their Yorkshire rivals.
Maintaining a two-point lead over Sheffield United and extending their advantage over Burnley to five points would put Farke’s side in a very strong position.
