“Revealed: The Stunning Reason Sandro Tonali Was ‘Dropped’ by Newcastle United Against Nottingham Forest
Sandro Tonali will not feature in the starting lineup for Newcastle United’s Premier League clash against Nottingham Forest on Sunday.
The Italian midfielder had started the previous nine league matches but has been dropped to the bench as part of three changes made by Eddie Howe for the Forest game.
Newcastle’s official club website explained the adjustments: “Sandro Tonali, who has not trained all week due to injury, is on the bench, along with Dúbravka – who signed a new contract this week – and Kieran Trippier.”
In their place, Lewis Miley earns his first Premier League start of the season, with Tino Livramento and Nick Pope also returning to the team.
Newcastle enters the match six points behind Nottingham Forest in the standings.
Tonali: A Crucial Presence for Newcastle United
Though Tonali started on the bench in Newcastle’s 3-1 victory over Nottingham Forest in November, he has since established himself as a key player in Eddie Howe’s squad.
Howe acknowledged Tonali’s importance: “Sandro has become an integral part of our midfield. His technical skills are well-known – he’s calm, composed, and positive with his passing.
But what stands out is his work off the ball, particularly his transitional play, which has been top-tier. He’s helped the midfield significantly, especially in our strong away performances.”
He continued: “Much of that success can be attributed to his defensive mindset, which has been outstanding and has been crucial to the team’s overall performance.”
