Leeds United Could Renew Interest in Southampton’s Cameron Archer This Summer

Leeds United may reignite their pursuit of Southampton forward Cameron Archer in the upcoming summer transfer window, according to journalist Ben Jacobs, who spoke exclusively to GIVEMESPORT.

The Whites reportedly identified Archer as their primary target in January, but Southampton resisted any potential sale while battling to avoid relegation from the Premier League.

However, if the Saints fail to maintain their top-flight status and Leeds secure promotion, the Yorkshire club could get another opportunity to strike a deal for the 23-year-old, who is reportedly open to the move.

Leeds are expected to explore multiple striker options this summer, including Sunderland’s Wilson Isidor, who has been impressive in the Championship this season.

Leeds Still Interested in Archer

Jacobs revealed that Leeds value Archer’s versatility, particularly his ability to play both centrally and on the wing. Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, he said:

“Cameron Archer was Leeds’ number one target for the striker role, and Leeds did everything they could.

“The deal didn’t materialize purely because Southampton were unwilling to sell. Leeds persisted until the very end, but the Saints maintained their stance.

“With Southampton likely to be relegated and Leeds on track for promotion, I expect Leeds to revisit the Archer deal this summer and potentially make more progress.

“Archer is interested in the move, and Leeds appreciate his flexibility in attack. He will remain on their shortlist as they assess their options.”

Archer, described by Breaking The Lines as a “nightmare to play against,” joined Southampton from Aston Villa last summer on a four-year deal but has struggled for consistent game time in the Premier League.

The forward has managed just 11 league starts this season, scoring twice—both goals coming in October.

He was given a rare start in Southampton’s 4-0 defeat to Brighton on Saturday but struggled to make an impact, failing to register a shot on target and managing only 14 touches in 72 minutes.

With 12 games remaining, Southampton are 15 points adrift of safety and will face Chelsea away on Tuesday.
