“That’s pathetic”- “Sheffield United Fans Destroyed as ‘Pathetic’ Live on BBC Over Shocking Bogle Incident
Jon Newsome voiced his frustration with Sheffield United fans after they directed hostile chants at Jayden Bogle at the start of their Championship clash against Leeds United.
Bogle made the switch to Elland Road in the summer, entering the final year of his contract at Bramall Lane.
Since joining Leeds, the English defender has become a key player, contributing to their strong Championship campaign.
However, whenever he has faced his former club this season, tensions have been high, and Monday’s match was no different.
Newsome was particularly unimpressed with the reaction from Sheffield United supporters, criticizing the early-game chants aimed at Bogle. While providing commentary on BBC Radio Leeds, he said, “That’s pathetic. It doesn’t surprise me, though.”
At halftime, Sheffield United led 1-0, with both sides creating chances. The Blades dominated much of the first half, taking the lead after Tyrese Campbell played a role in forcing an error from Illan Meslier.
Despite the scoreline, Newsome’s primary concern remained the behavior of the home crowd toward Bogle, which he deemed unacceptable.
Leeds United, in a crucial fixture against Chris Wilder’s side, needed to step up in the second half. Despite being one of the Championship’s strongest teams, they have struggled in matchups against similarly competitive sides like Sheffield United. Players such as Dan James squandered opportunities, while Joe Rodon appeared off his game.
If Leeds want to stay in contention for automatic promotion to the Premier League, they must improve their performances. Otherwise, Sheffield United could claim all three points and gain valuable momentum as the season nears its conclusion.
