“Fabrizio Romano Drops Major Update on Next Permanent Rangers Manager – Is Steven Gerrard Returning?
Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on the situation surrounding the Rangers manager role and Steven Gerrard’s potential return.
The race to find the next permanent manager for Rangers is now underway, and attention is shifting to who will lead the club into a new era.
Currently, Barry Ferguson is serving as interim manager, supported by Neil McCann, Billy Dodds, and Allan McGregor as they hold things together.
However, with a potential takeover by 49ers Enterprises in the summer and the arrival of a new sporting director, significant changes are on the horizon.
Following a 2-0 defeat to St Mirren, Philippe Clement was dismissed, and now it’s up to club legend Ferguson to steer the team as far as possible in the Europa League.
Rangers face Kilmarnock midweek in the league before hosting Motherwell on Saturday.
As the managerial search continues, many names will be linked to the role, with former player Steven Gerrard likely to be a prominent candidate.
Romano’s Update on Gerrard
Fabrizio Romano has offered an update on Gerrard’s situation, noting that while nothing has been decided yet, Rangers are actively evaluating their options for a new manager.
Romano explained for GiveMeSport: “At the moment, nothing has been decided, so let’s keep all options open. The club is assessing options to replace Clement, but there has been no direct contact with Gerrard or his camp yet.”
Ferguson’s Demands
Meanwhile, interim boss Barry Ferguson has sent a clear message to Rangers players, emphasizing the tough standards expected at the club.
Speaking to RTV, Ferguson said: “They are playing for Glasgow Rangers, it’s a privilege to walk into this training centre. Training will be tough, but it will be enjoyable as well.”
He continued, “It’s serious when it comes to the 90 minutes; it’s all about winning at Rangers. That’s how I was brought up, and that’s the way I want my players to be.
You have to win every game with the demands and the expectations put on you here. When people come to watch, they expect you to win, and I don’t think we’ve won enough this year.”
Ferguson made it clear that his style will be attacking and aggressive: “The message would be you’re going to see a team with a certain style of play—attack-minded—and we’re going to try to win every game.
We’re going to be aggressive, which was a part of my game as well. I don’t mean tackling people, but I mean aggressive in the press.”
He added, “I believe there’s a team capable of winning week in, week out. I’m excited to get started. We’ll take it game by game, but every game we enter, we enter to win.”
