“That was incredibly poor defending from Wolves. You can’t play such a high line when there’s no pressure on the ball.
They were trying to play offside three or four yards into their own half – crazy stuff,” said Reid.
The 115-time Premier League veteran was stunned by how easily Fulham was allowed to progress through Wolves’ midfield and defense, something that will likely have left Pereira furious.
While statistical improvements under Pereira suggest his influence on Wolves’ defense, he will no doubt be displeased with his team’s performance after Fulham’s early goal.
The Portuguese coach has called for more duels won, an area that has seen progress but clearly requires further work.
Early mistakes, like the one against Fulham, could be critical in determining whether Wolves stay safe or face relegation.
Every point is crucial for the Old Gold, who must avoid slipping too close to the relegation zone as the season progresses.
Fortunately, Joao Gomes scored shortly after to help redeem the situation and spare his teammates’ blushes after the disastrous start at Molineux.
