Merson believes Wolves’ win against Bournemouth has “all but guaranteed their survival in the Premier League.”
The pundit also pointed out Wolves’ solid display against Liverpool and how they were unlucky not to secure a draw.
Merson ended his analysis by predicting a 1-1 draw with Fulham.
“In my view, that win over Bournemouth has virtually secured their survival in the Premier League,” Merson wrote on Sportskeeda.
“Wolves showed they can be a strong team in their match against Liverpool. They were unlucky not to come away with a point, but their performance against the league leaders was encouraging.”
“Bournemouth’s red card certainly helped Wolves in the last game, but there’s no doubt they’re a solid team.”
“Matheus Cunha is a key player for them, and I believe they can get something from this match. Another point would further distance them from the relegation zone.”
Although a five-point gap with 12 games remaining isn’t insurmountable, Merson is optimistic about Wolves’ chances.
Teams like Ipswich, Leicester, and Southampton have struggled this season, and Wolves have scored 11 more goals than Leicester, the highest-scoring team in the bottom three.
Southampton’s relegation seems inevitable, while Leicester and Ipswich both suffered heavy defeats in their week 26 matches.
