Troy Deeney predicts when Leeds United will confirm promotion
Leeds will face West Brom on Saturday, followed by matches against Portsmouth, Millwall, and QPR. Another 12 points would push Leeds to 87 points.
Speaking to TalkSPORT on Tuesday morning (25/02, 6:05 AM), Deeney, a Championship icon, predicted that Leeds will likely confirm their promotion within the next four weeks.
“They should be done in four weeks’ time. You’re not going to change the manager, he’s been in the Premier League before with Norwich, and the Premier League needs Leeds,” said Deeney.
Which Leeds side is better – this season or last?
Last season, Leeds often relied on individual brilliance, with players like Crysencio Summerville or Georginio Rutter stepping up to carry the team, especially in attacking moments. A memorable comeback against Norwich exemplifies this.
This season, however, the team as a whole is more impressive. While Leeds may not have a £40m player like Rutter or a Championship Player of the Season like Summerville, they boast a more balanced squad.
Deeney commented, “They had better individuals last year, but they’re a better team this year.
They’ve reshaped the squad and now they’re in this fantastic position with 75 points and only three losses all season.”
Leeds are also spreading the goal-scoring responsibilities across the team, with everyone contributing, and Joel Piroe has already surpassed his goal tally of 14 from last season.
This season’s Leeds may lack star quality, but they are a more cohesive and stronger unit.
