Spurs are set to face Manchester City in the Premier League this evening, coming off three consecutive league victories, marking their first such streak of the season.
The team is in a much stronger position than before, following a difficult period in recent months.
James Maddison, Brennan Johnson, Guglielmo Vicario, Destiny Udogie, and Wilson Odobert have all returned from injuries and are available for selection, offering a significant boost to Postecoglou, despite a few key players still sidelined.
The Spurs head coach is optimistic about the return of several other important squad members in the next 10 days, as the team aims to finish the domestic season strong while also focusing heavily on their Europa League campaign, which represents Postecoglou’s best chance for silverware in the 2024/2025 season.
“It will be the same as the weekend squad-wise,” Postecoglou said regarding the team news ahead of the Man City match.
“Everyone got through the weekend well, no issues. We could obviously protect a few guys — Pedro (Porro) and (James) Maddison didn’t start. Everyone is good. As for the injured players, nothing has changed.
They’re still progressing and training intermittently with us. Hopefully, over the next 7-10 days, we’ll reintroduce them.”
Postecoglou’s squad has also been strengthened by new winter arrivals, including defender Kevin Danso, who has gradually emerged as a leader since joining on loan from RC Lens in January.
Ex-Tottenham Chief Comments on Real Madrid’s Interest in Micky van de Ven
Spurs’ defense, often a topic of debate, features two key players in Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero, both crucial for Postecoglou. However, the head coach has had to manage without this defensive duo for much of the season.
Reports have indicated that Real Madrid is eyeing both van de Ven and Romero, with former Tottenham chief scout Mick Brown providing his thoughts on the potential interest from Carlo Ancelotti’s side in the Dutch defender.
“Real Madrid are looking for a left-sided center-back,” Brown told Football Insider. “There have been links to Jarrad Branthwaite, but I hear they’ve also been considering Tottenham’s Van de Ven. I think he stands out as the better option between the two.”
“He’s faster than most, technically strong on the ball, and has excellent game reading skills. He’s also gained valuable experience at a high level.
A lot will depend on how he recovers from this injury, but they’ll certainly be keeping an eye on him. At the moment, I think they’d be more likely to pursue Van de Ven over Branthwaite.”
Van de Ven, earning £50,000 per week, would be a significant boost to Spurs upon his return, but with the allure of a potential move to Madrid, it remains uncertain how long Tottenham will be able to retain his services.
