“Is there a foul against Rangers? Ex-FIFA ref reacts as Butland fumes over Rangers foil incident v Kilmarnock
Robin Propper was left sprawled on the ground as Kilmarnock took the lead over Rangers at Rugby Park on Wednesday night.
Joe Wright scored his first goal in Scottish football, heading in a corner from Fraser Murray at the back post in the 11th minute of the Scottish Premiership match.
However, Rangers’ Jack Butland and his teammates were furious with referee Don Robertson’s decision to allow the goal, as Propper, 30, was seen on the ground during the build-up.
Keith Hackett, former PGMOL general manager, commended referee Robertson and VAR official Steven McLean for their handling of Kilmarnock’s opening goal.
McLean quickly reviewed Robertson’s on-field decision to confirm Wright’s goal, allowing the match to continue without delay.
Hackett, who has officiated in the Premier League and FIFA competitions, believes there was no foul on Propper, despite him being on the ground and leaving Wright unmarked.
“It was a good goal, and VAR rightly supported the referee’s decision,” Hackett told Ibrox News. “There was no foul on the Rangers player who fell.”
Another poor defensive performance from Propper Once again, Propper delivered a disappointing performance in the Rangers defense.
Despite their poor previous partnership under former manager Philippe Clement, Barry Ferguson surprised many by pairing Propper with Clinton Nsiala for his first game as interim manager.
Nsiala was substituted after just 30 minutes, but Ferguson might have justifiably pulled Propper off as well.
It’s hard to see Propper remaining at Ibrox beyond this season, and at the very least, he should lose his spot in the starting lineup. His debut season with Rangers has been underwhelming, and it might be best if little is said about it.
