Marco Silva evaluated Wolves’ chances of avoiding relegation following Fulham’s 2-1 win at Molineux.
Fulham manager Marco Silva praised Wolves after his side’s victory at Molineux on Tuesday evening.
The Portuguese coach acknowledged that he had been closely monitoring the Old Gold in recent weeks and regarded them as a tough team to face, making the Cottagers’ win even more satisfying.
Silva believes the relegation battle is still ongoing, but feels Wolves have a good chance of remaining in the Premier League if they continue to perform as they have in certain matches.
Using Wolves’ last three league games as examples, Silva highlighted the challenge Fulham faced in securing the win at Molineux.
“First of all, we knew they were gaining momentum, even two weeks ago when they lost to Liverpool, their second half was very strong,” Silva said. “Their previous game against Villa was good, and they also won at Bournemouth.
That shows that their last three matches have been impressive, with wins over two strong teams like Villa and Bournemouth.”
“We knew it was going to be difficult. It’s hard to take the ball from them, especially with Andre, (Joao) Gomes, and when the ball reaches Matheus (Cunha), anything can happen.
They also have pace in attack, making them tough opponents,” Silva continued.
“However, we trust in ourselves and know what we’re capable of. It’s going to be tough and a real battle for them, but they are in a better position than before. It will be a big fight for them,” he concluded.
Wolves’ Issues Exposed
Wolves’ defensive lapses against Fulham ultimately cost them the chance to earn points, with Vitor Pereira’s side conceding early in both halves.
Ryan Sessegnon opened the scoring just 65 seconds into the match with a simple through ball from Andreas Pereira, and Rodrigo Muniz put Fulham ahead 2-1 shortly after halftime with a delicate chip over Jose Sa.
Pereira expressed frustration after the match, particularly with how his team conceded both goals.
Nelson Semedo failed to track Sessegnon’s run for the first goal, while Santiago Bueno gave Muniz too much space for the second.
“I’m frustrated because we have another match in three days, and we start the first half by conceding a very easy goal.
We can’t afford to have lapses in concentration at this level,” Pereira said in his post-match press conference.
“Today, we made mistakes we can’t afford to repeat. I’ll begin working tomorrow to correct these errors and reflect on what went wrong.
We need to focus on ourselves, not the other team. The players gave everything, but not in the right way,” he added.
