February was a solid month for Wolves, with Matheus Cunha continuing to make significant contributions.
The Brazilian, who recently signed a new contract at Molineux, scored in four consecutive games for Wolves before going scoreless in the match against Fulham on Tuesday.
Cunha’s performances were key in helping Wolves secure six points in the league and progress to the fifth round of the FA Cup.
Much of the focus has been on him, and he is likely a strong contender for Wolves’ Player of the Month award for February. However, there is another player who could – and perhaps should – come close to taking the honor.
Jean-Ricner Bellegarde Deserves Player of the Month Recognition
While Emmanuel Agbadou was named Wolves’ Player of the Month for January, the Ivorian is now sidelined with injury, making way for a new winner this time.
Cunha certainly deserves recognition for his four goals, but Jean-Ricner Bellegarde could also make a compelling case for the award.
In recent weeks, Bellegarde has undergone a transformation, with his standout performance against Aston Villa earlier in the month serving as a turning point.
In central midfield, a role he has rarely played since joining Wolves, he partnered with Andre in place of the suspended Joao Gomes.
Bellegarde seized the opportunity, delivering an excellent performance and scoring a stunning goal in the 2-0 victory.
Despite this, Bellegarde was surprisingly dropped to the bench for the next match against Liverpool, a decision many felt was harsh.
However, he made an impact when he came on, and he would have had an assist had Marshall Munetsi shown better composure in front of goal.
Bellegarde maintained his impressive form in the 1-0 win over Bournemouth, and even in the loss to Fulham, his brilliant cross helped set up Gomes’ equalizer.
Though he may fall short against Cunha for the Player of the Month award, Bellegarde’s contributions certainly deserve recognition.
Fans might feel that his efforts warrant acknowledgment, and he could well edge out Cunha in the voting. If that happens, he would be a worthy recipient.
Bellegarde Finally Proving Himself at Wolves
It has been a long wait, but Bellegarde is finally showcasing his potential at Wolves.
His time at the club has been challenging, often having to play out of position on the wing.
Former Wolves midfielder Dave Edwards sympathized with Bellegarde’s struggles, having faced similar challenges in his own career.
However, Edwards believes Bellegarde has now proven his worth, and hopes his strong form continues.
With Bellegarde now clearly gaining confidence, it is hoped that manager Vitor Pereira will continue to give him regular opportunities in the starting lineup.
