SHAMBLES; Chris Sutton Rips Into Rangers as They Plunge 16 Points Behind Celtic in Shocking Title Collapse
Chris Sutton has once again criticized Rangers after they slipped 16 points behind Celtic in the Scottish Premiership title race.
Following their shock home defeats to Queen’s Park and St. Mirren in the Scottish Cup and Premiership, Rangers parted ways with manager Philippe Clement.
The team’s woes continued as they suffered a third consecutive defeat at Ibrox on Saturday.
Under the interim management of Barry Ferguson and a team of Rangers legends, Motherwell visited Ibrox and quickly went 2-0 up in the first half, eventually securing a 2-1 victory after the break.
As a result, Rangers now find themselves closer to third-placed Hibernian than to their Old Firm rivals, with Celtic comfortably heading towards their fourth consecutive title.
If Celtic clinch the championship, they will equal Rangers’ record of 55 league titles.
Chris Sutton Criticizes Rangers’ “Shambles” Amid Ibrox Crisis
Rangers’ domestic failures, including defeats to St. Mirren, Kilmarnock, and even Queen’s Park, have been key to their collapse in the title race, with many of these setbacks occurring away from Ibrox.
Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live (2 March, 6:03pm), Chris Sutton shared his thoughts on the growing gap between the Old Firm. He expressed doubt that things would improve anytime soon, especially with fan apathy growing.
In a conversation with a Rangers supporter, Sutton commented: “This season, Celtic and Rangers are even in terms of head-to-head, but Rangers’ failure to beat the teams they should be beating has been the issue.
For Celtic to be 16 points clear at this stage – that’s really a shambles, isn’t it?”
He added, “You talk about the atmosphere at Ibrox and how many fans are in the stadium – it’s flat, absolutely flat. No wonder they made a change.”
Rangers’ Season Crumbles Amidst Uncertainty
Apart from their European outings, where Clement’s relative success briefly masked domestic shortcomings, Rangers’ season has been a complete failure, leaving the club in a state of stagnation.
The team’s strong performance in December’s League Cup Final, where they lost to Celtic on penalties amid controversy, did not lead to a sustained improvement.
Rangers have since been eliminated from both the Scottish Cup and the Premiership title race.
A 3-0 victory over Celtic in January briefly raised hopes, but nine dropped points in four games since have left them further adrift.
Their historic loss to Queen’s Park in last month’s Scottish Cup marked the lowest point of Clement’s tenure, signaling the end for the Belgian manager.
