“What a HUGE blow”- FA’s Shocking Decision on Matheus Cunha Could Seal Leicester City’s Relegation Fate
Wolves’ key player, Matheus Cunha, has been charged by the FA following an incident in the FA Cup defeat to Bournemouth, a development that could have significant implications for Leicester City’s relegation battle.
Cunha was shown a straight red card after a violent outburst towards Bournemouth’s left-back Milos Kerkez, swinging his arms and attempting to kick and headbutt the Hungarian.
Despite the dismissal, Cunha refused to leave the pitch and had to be escorted off by officials.
This behaviour has now led to an FA charge. While the red card itself already guarantees a three-match ban, Cunha may face additional punishment, with the FA investigating his actions after the dismissal.
In an official statement, the FA confirmed: “Matheus Cunha has been charged following the FA Cup tie between Wolverhampton Wanderers and AFC Bournemouth on Saturday, March 1.
It’s alleged that the forward acted in an improper manner around the 121st minute after his dismissal. Matheus Cunha has until Monday, March 10, to respond.”
A lengthy ban for Cunha could significantly impact Wolves’ position in the relegation fight, where they are just five points ahead of 17th-placed Wolves.
The Brazilian, who has scored 13 Premier League goals this season, has netted in every one of Wolves’ six wins this campaign.
Cunha is set to miss Wolves’ next three matches against Everton, Southampton, and West Ham, but if the FA charge is upheld, he could also be sidelined for upcoming fixtures against Ipswich, Tottenham, and Manchester United.
Given the severity of the incident, it’s not out of the question that his ban could extend long enough to affect Wolves’ next seven matches, including their game against Leicester City at Molineux later in the run.
