“Dessers delivers verdict on disallowed goals vs Fenerbahce. What is your TAKE on the REJECTED goal?

Rangers striker Cyriel Dessers admitted it was disappointing to have two goals ruled out during his side’s impressive 3-1 win over Fenerbahce in Istanbul.

The Nigerian forward scored once and provided an assist as Rangers cruised to a commanding victory.

Dessers opened the scoring with a fine strike that was just millimetres over the line.

He then combined well with Vaclav Cerny, whose goal put Rangers ahead before sealing the win late on.

Despite his earlier success, Dessers had two second-half goals disallowed due to being marginally offside.

Reflecting on the disallowed goals, he said: “For the first one, I was just watching Nico [Raskin] as he was shooting; I wasn’t really aware of where I was.”

“For the second one, I was hoping to receive the ball just a bit earlier. Jefte played it perfectly, so it’s a pity it was ruled out.”

Rangers head into next week’s second leg with a two-goal advantage, but Fenerbahce manager Jose Mourinho insists the tie is far from over.

When asked what went wrong for his side, Mourinho said simply, “Everything” (TNT). He added: “The result could have been worse for us, so in that sense, it’s a good result.”

While acknowledging Rangers’ deserving win, Mourinho remained confident, stating, “They [Rangers] deserve the result, but for me, it’s not over. I know it’s 3-1, so we’re losing 3-1 when the game starts next week, but it’s not over.”
