“I can’t believe what i saw with Matheus Cunha”- Paul Merson makes SHOCKING Prediction when asked about Wolves’ surviving RELEGATION without Matheus Cunha
The moment Matheus Cunha lost his temper against Bournemouth, Wolves fans knew their season was hanging by a thread. Cunha received a red card for lashing out at Milos Kerkez, contributing to Wolves’ penalty defeat in the FA Cup fifth round.
It was a reckless outburst from the Brazilian, showing a lack of mental strength for the second time this season.
Earlier, Cunha had been sent off against Ipswich Town following an altercation with a security guard, resulting in a two-match ban and an £80,000 fine.
His latest red card could see his current three-game suspension extended by the FA.
The 25-year-old will miss crucial matches against Everton, Southampton, and West Ham, and his actions are already raising concerns for potential suitors and former Arsenal forward Paul Merson.
Paul Merson Predicts Wolves’ Relegation After Cunha’s Ban
Much like Mohamed Salah for Liverpool or Erling Haaland for Manchester City, Cunha has been the key figure for Wolves — the one player capable of turning a game with a moment of brilliance.
Last weekend, Cunha’s stunning goal brought his side level, but his meltdown soon after overshadowed his performance.
What’s worrying for Wolves is that Cunha has contributed to 47% of their total goal involvements this season, with 17 goal contributions in the league alone.
The team has only managed 37 goals in total, a statistic that will leave fans worried about how they’ll cope without him. Merson shares these concerns.
In his column for Sportskeeda, Merson predicted that Wolves would lose their next four games and face relegation from the Premier League.
“I can’t believe what I saw from Matheus Cunha. He’s just ruined Wolves’ chance of staying up,” Merson wrote. “The games he’s going to miss were all winnable fixtures.
Cunha could’ve made a real difference, and I don’t see Wolves winning any of their next four games without him.
He’s basically thrown Wolves’ survival hopes out the window with that rash behavior leading to the red card.”
Merson’s Prediction for Wolves vs Everton
While Merson’s prediction of four consecutive losses might seem drastic — especially with two of the games against Southampton and Ipswich — it’s hard to ignore the impact of Cunha’s absence.
Even without him, Wolves should still manage to take points from these matches, but the pressure is on.
Merson has predicted a 2-1 win for Everton in their upcoming match against Wolves, sending a warning to clubs tracking Cunha.
“I’m backing Everton to win because Wolves are missing Cunha,” Merson said. “All the big clubs interested in him will now be looking closely at his disciplinary record.
This has happened more than once this season, and it’s starting to show a pattern. At a bigger club, the pressure is higher, and you rarely see players act like that.”
