Prutton’s Prediction for Portsmouth vs Leeds: 4-Goal Thriller
Leeds have been in strong form lately, asserting themselves as league leaders with consecutive victories over top-four rivals Sunderland and Sheffield United, followed by a 1-1 draw with playoff hopefuls West Brom.
However, Portsmouth presents a different kind of challenge. John Mousinho’s side is still fighting to secure their Championship survival.
On the latest episode of Sky Sports’ Essential EFL Championship predictions podcast, host Simeon Gholam revealed an intriguing stat: “Leeds have not won any of their last six away games against Portsmouth, and their last victory at Fratton Park was in 1986.”
Gholam also noted that Sunday’s match is crucial for Leeds, as they will be keen to see how their promotion rivals perform on Saturday.
After hearing about Leeds’ poor record at Fratton Park, Prutton made his prediction: “I’m going for a 2-2 draw—a lively Sunday lunchtime encounter.”
Leeds Should Have Enough to Overcome Portsmouth
Prutton’s prediction of a thrilling draw is understandable, considering Leeds’ struggles at Portsmouth in recent years.
However, Pompey will be without seven injured players, including their key man Callum Lang, which could give Leeds an advantage.
Portsmouth currently have an eight-point buffer over the relegation zone, though this could shrink if teams like Luton Town secure victories on Saturday.
The last time Leeds and Portsmouth met, on the opening day of the season, it ended in a chaotic 3-3 draw at Elland Road, with Callum Lang scoring twice for Pompey and Brenden Aaronson rescuing a last-minute equalizer for Leeds.
This time, though, with the Championship leaders in good form and Portsmouth missing key players, Leeds are expected to have enough quality to take all three points.
