Rangers May Drop Butland After Costly Error Against Fenerbahçe
Jack Butland’s future at Rangers is under serious scrutiny following yet another mistake in the match against Fenerbahçe.
According to Jordan Campbell of The Athletic, the goalkeeper has been a liability for the Glaswegian club for quite some time, with his decision-making repeatedly coming under fire.
Campbell didn’t hold back in his criticism, particularly after Butland’s poor challenge on Propper during the game.
He questioned how much longer Rangers can afford to keep the 31-year-old in the starting lineup, given his ongoing struggles.
Taking to X (6 March), Campbell wrote: “Butland has been a walking mistake for months and months now. His decision-making is shot to pieces, and he hasn’t recovered.
Not sure how long Rangers can continue with him before it becomes untenable.”
Despite the criticism, Rangers legend Barry Ferguson remains unfazed by Butland’s recent form. Ferguson highlighted the team’s victory over Fenerbahçe, which saw Vaclav Černy shine with a brace.
Černy first restored Rangers’ lead just before halftime and then sealed the win with a second goal in the 81st minute.
The match also saw Cyriel Dessers have two goals disallowed, but Rangers ultimately emerged victorious, with Ferguson praising the team’s resilience despite Butland’s errors.
