“He sets himself here with two touches, that shouldn’t happen”- Peter Crouch shocked by Wolves v Everton incident
Peter Crouch was left shocked by the manner of Jack Harrison’s goal for Everton in their 1-1 draw with Wolves at Molineux on Saturday evening.
Harrison, 28, found the net for the first time this season after capitalizing on a defensive error from Wolves, just days after manager David Moyes urged the winger to step up his contributions to the attack.
However, Wolves quickly leveled the score, with Marshall Munetsi netting his first-ever goal in English football just seven minutes later.
The draw lifted Everton to 14th in the Premier League table, while Wolves remain six points clear of the relegation zone.
Crouch Criticizes Wolves’ Defence After Everton Take the Lead
Harrison’s goal, his first in 13 months, came in the 33rd minute after Wolves’ defensive lapse.
Emmanuel Agbadou carelessly gave the ball away in his own half while attempting to play it out from the back, allowing Jesper Lindstrom to pass the ball to Harrison, who found himself with plenty of space on the edge of the Wolves penalty area.
The on-loan Leeds winger was given ample time to compose himself before taking a shot, a situation that both Joe Cole and Peter Crouch found unacceptable from Wolves’ perspective.
“He gets it, and while it’s tough for [Matt] Doherty to get there, he needs to be more aware,” said Cole on TNT Sports (8:53pm, 8 March).
“He takes two touches to set up the shot, and that shouldn’t happen,” Crouch added. “He got a bit lucky with the deflection, but he did receive some help.”
Harrison Answers Moyes’ Call for More Contributions
Ahead of Everton’s trip to the West Midlands, Moyes had called on Harrison to offer more to the team in terms of goals and assists.
Moyes’ comments seemed to issue a direct challenge to the winger, stating that Harrison would have a limited future in his plans if he didn’t start producing.
“Both players haven’t contributed with goals or assists this season. Let’s be clear – you won’t stay in my plans long if you’re not providing those numbers,” Moyes said.
“I need goals and assists. Both need to significantly improve in that regard.”
Harrison’s record in terms of direct contributions has been modest, with just five goals and three assists in 63 appearances for Everton across all competitions.
