Aina reflected on his encounter with Doku, acknowledging the tough challenge posed by the City winger.
Earlier in the season, Aina had described Doku as his toughest opponent, and Saturday’s match proved to be another intense battle.
The Nigerian defender admitted he struggled to defend against Doku, revealing that he kept telling the Belgian to “chill out” during the game.
“We knew City were pushing us hard, and we needed a result here. Thankfully, we got it,” Aina said.
When asked about the battle with Doku compared to the reverse fixture, Aina replied: “It’s still tough. He’s very direct and a tricky player.
I kept telling him on the pitch that he needs to chill, man. He’s a tough opponent, and I like to test myself against him.”
Asked about his preparation for the match, Aina humorously added, “I got more sleep, more sleep.
But you know, I prepare the same way every time. I’m the type of person who gives my best, and whatever happens, happens. It was a good one today.”
Jeremy Doku’s Stats vs Nottingham Forest
Despite City’s flat performance, Doku stood out as one of the few players who looked dangerous throughout the match.
His stats reflect his efforts, as he was consistently one of the more threatening players on the pitch.
However, Doku’s attacking influence couldn’t convert into goals, and once again, Erling Haaland failed to find the back of the net.
Haaland had promised a strong response from City after their Champions League defeat to Real Madrid last month, but recent performances have remained underwhelming.
