Everton’s 1-1 draw with Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday evening moved them up to 14th place in the Premier League, putting them ten points clear of Wolves, who sit in 17th.
Under David Moyes, Everton has experienced a remarkable turnaround in recent weeks, and it looks increasingly likely that their top-flight status for the 2025/26 season is now secure.
The Toffees took the lead through Jack Harrison, who netted from just inside the penalty area. However, Wolves responded quickly, equalizing seven minutes later thanks to Marshall Munetsi.
The score remained 1-1 until the final whistle, with both teams earning a point.
For Wolves, the draw could prove vital in their fight to avoid relegation, while Moyes’ impressive record continues, having lost just twice since his return to Goodison Park.
Everton’s Key Performers vs Wolves
At the back, James Tarkowski was solid, making six clearances, winning all of his aerial duels, and completing 87% of his passes, helping Everton secure a point.
In midfield, Idrissa Gueye was a standout, winning 11 ground duels, making eight tackles, and displaying his usual tenacity, although he did lose possession six times.
Other players, including Abdoulaye Doucoure and James Garner, failed to show their best against Wolves, with both turning in underwhelming performances.
However, it was Beto who had the most disappointing game for Everton. After a strong run of form, he struggled to make an impact in front of goal, wasting several key opportunities.
Beto’s Struggles vs Wolves
Under Moyes, Beto had been in great form, scoring five goals in his previous five games. But against Wolves, he had a tough time.
The striker took fewer touches than goalkeeper Jordan Pickford (26 vs 47) and managed just two shots on target.
He lost ten duels and gave away possession 12 times. Beto also completed just four passes in the entire game, the lowest of anyone on the pitch, and missed two clear chances that could have secured all three points for Everton.
Chris Beesley of the Liverpool Echo gave Beto a match rating of 6/10, reflecting his lackluster performance. With Everton facing West Ham United next week, Moyes may consider dropping Beto for that match.
Youssef Chermiti, who has struggled with injury this season, was on the bench for the Wolves game but did not feature.
Moyes could opt to give the Portuguese forward a chance in place of Beto, which might motivate the latter to step up and deliver better performances in the remaining matches of the season.
