Hibernian FC Head Coach David Gray praised his players’ effort and the unwavering support from their travelling fans, despite suffering a defeat at Celtic Park.
Late goals in both halves sealed Hibs’ fate, knocking them out of the Scottish Cup at the Quarter-Final stage.
Though disappointed by the result, Gray commended his team for their commitment, as they fought until the very end.
“This feeling is one we haven’t experienced in a long time, and it’s not a pleasant one when it comes. I’ll never accept losing, but I can’t fault the effort.
The players gave everything and were still very much in the game until the end, but we just didn’t do enough to challenge Schmeichel.
“We had one great opportunity in the first half, but when we had the chance to test Celtic, our final ball or decision-making let us down. Celtic deserved the win in the end.”
Gray also reserved special praise for the 7,045 supporters who made the journey from the capital.
“The support was outstanding. There was a lot of talk about the ticket sales, but those 7,000 fans made their presence known throughout the game, cheering us on and applauding the players for their efforts.
It shows the unity and how they’re with us on this journey.
I know they’ll continue to back us for the rest of the season. There’s still much to play for in the league.
“I’m disappointed that we didn’t create more going forward for them, as there were chances to do so, but we’ll quickly put this behind us and turn our focus to Kilmarnock.”
