“It’s been very frustrating all season”- Jack Harrison Drops Truth Bomb About Everton’s Struggles in Candid Interview After Wolves Draw
Jack Harrison has opened up about the extra effort he’s been putting in behind the scenes and the changes under David Moyes after scoring his first goal of the season for Everton in their 1-1 draw at Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Having broken his goal drought, Harrison shared insights into the hard work he’s been doing off the pitch and revealed why the players are enjoying life under Moyes.
Speaking about his and Jesper Lindstrom’s lack of goals and assists this season, the Blues boss had warned the wingers ahead of their Molineux trip that they needed to contribute or risk losing their places in the side.
However, both players responded positively, with Lindstrom assisting Harrison for the opener.
The 27-year-old, who scored four goals for Everton last season and netted 10 in all competitions for Leeds United in their first Premier League campaign back, said: “It wasn’t exactly how I imagined it, but I’ll take it and hope to continue contributing a lot more.
“I’ve been working hard both on and off the pitch to get off the mark. Sometimes, you just need a bit of luck, and I had that. I’m grateful for the chances I’ve been getting lately and just trying to make the most of them. I hope to contribute even more.”
He went on to explain the extra training he’s been doing: “I’ve been working with a trainer in Miami, watching clips, and doing some additional sessions.
I’ve also been working closely with Billy (McKinlay) and Leighton (Baines) to improve different aspects of my game.
“A lot of behind-the-scenes work has gone into this moment, and I’ll keep doing everything I can to contribute more.”
When asked about the areas he’s been focusing on, Harrison added: “It’s been a combination of things—defending and attacking with Billy and Leighton. For me personally, it’s about positioning, where I receive the ball.
“Tonight, I was receiving the ball a bit more centrally rather than wide. Little adjustments like that.
Then there are individual things in training, like how I can score more goals and get more assists, whether it’s through crossing or finishing.
There’s a lot that goes into it, and we’re all working hard to add more to our games.”
Although Harrison and Lindstrom have often competed for the same position, with both typically playing wide, Harrison expressed his satisfaction with their recent link-up for the goal—Everton’s 9,000th in all competitions.
He hopes it marks the start of better things to come: “It was a great ball from him! Football is tough because of the competition for places, but sometimes we need to work together, and that understanding is key.
Jesper has always been a great teammate, and I try to be the same. At the end of the day, we’re all working for the team’s success.
“It’s been frustrating for me this season. I’ve been working hard to get on the scoresheet and deliver solid performances.
Sometimes, all you need is a bit of luck. I don’t think I’ve hit the level I want to yet, but this goal is a step in the right direction, and I’ll keep building on it.”
Everton’s revival since Moyes’ return has been significant, with the club now 16 points clear of relegation after a run of eight unbeaten matches.
Reflecting on the impact Moyes has had since rejoining the club, Harrison said: “The work we’ve been doing under him has been much more detailed, both on and off the ball.
Defensively, there’s a big focus on set pieces and pressing from the front, which has been very beneficial.
“Moyes is demanding, and his Scottish character brings a lot of intensity. But he’s also very approachable and clear with what he expects from his players. It’s been fantastic having him back—he’s a legend at this club, and everyone is happy to see him return.
“There are plenty of positives at the moment, and we’re eager to keep building on that momentum.”
