‘Especially with Cunha being out’ – Club expert thinks he knows which Wolves player Vitor Pereira is going to build team around

Wolves are battling for survival near the bottom of the Premier League table, with the threat of relegation still looming over them. The club remains in the fight to avoid dropping to the Championship.

After taking over from Gary O’Neil last year, Vitor Pereira’s primary task has been to ensure Wolves remain in the top tier of English football.

While it’s not yet mathematically secured, the team is on track to maintain their Premier League status, likely at the expense of Leicester City and Ipswich Town.

The pressure has intensified following Matheus Cunha’s three-game suspension, but there is optimism that Pereira will build his tactics around another key player.

Emmanuel Agbadou Vital to Wolves’ Survival Bid

Emmanuel Agbadou, who joined Wolves in January, has quickly become an essential figure for the club.

The commanding centre-back’s value was highlighted when he was immediately brought back into the starting lineup against Everton after recovering from injury.

Liam Keen, Wolves expert for Express and Star, believes Agbadou will play a central role in Pereira’s plans during Cunha’s absence.

“Wolves are edging closer to safety,” Keen said on the E&S Wolves podcast. “I don’t think it’ll be a smooth ride, but a win against Southampton would put them in a great position.

They’ll likely get over the line by being tough to beat, with Agbadou solidifying the defence. I suspect that will be the game plan, especially with Cunha out.”

Despite Wolves losing four of the games Agbadou has played in, his presence has still helped strengthen the defence.

Agbadou Set for Key Role Against Southampton

While three teams fight for one relegation spot, Southampton’s fate is already sealed, with the club set to drop to the Championship next season unless a miracle happens.

The Saints’ next challenge is a home match against Wolves at St. Mary’s on Saturday, a crucial game for the visitors as they look to secure vital points for Premier League survival.

Agbadou is expected to be integral to Wolves’ defence once again. He will likely partner Matt Doherty and Toti Gomes in the heart of the backline, with Rayan Ait-Nouri and Nelson Semedo continuing on the flanks.

As Keen highlighted, Agbadou’s involvement will be crucial as Wolves aim to add to their current tally of 23 points after 28 games.
