Everton manager David Moyes took a cheeky dig at Liverpool as they faced Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) in the Champions League on Tuesday.
The two teams squared off at Anfield on March 11, both aiming for a spot in the quarter-finals of Europe’s premier competition.
Moyes’ return to Goodison Park has reignited his longstanding rivalry with Liverpool, and he couldn’t resist throwing in a subtle jab when asked about their Champions League clash.
The round of 16 tie ended 1-1 on aggregate after extra time, and Arne Slot’s team was eliminated following a penalty shootout loss.
Moyes Claims He Was Unaware of Liverpool’s Game
When asked about Liverpool’s fixture against PSG, Moyes humorously claimed he wasn’t even aware the game was taking place.
The Everton boss was attending the Blood Brothers musical at the Liverpool Empire while the Reds battled the French champions.
When a reporter joked that attending the show was a clever way to avoid watching Liverpool’s Champions League match, Moyes responded with a quick-witted comeback.
Speaking to the BBC, via Jon Shea on X (March 11), Moyes said: “I didn’t know there was a game on tonight. Is there?”
Goodison Park Celebrates Moyes’ Return
Moyes has breathed new life into Everton’s season, with recent performances ensuring their Premier League survival.
Under former manager Sean Dyche, Goodison Park feared relegation, but those concerns now feel like a distant memory after Moyes’ return.
The Toffees are on a seven-match unbeaten streak in the league, putting them 16 points clear of the relegation zone, and it would now take a dramatic collapse for them to be dragged into a relegation battle.
