“He’s so unbelievable”- Sky Sports pundit wowed by what he saw Leeds player did v Millwall
Joe Rothwell impressed a Sky Sports pundit with his performance during Leeds United’s clash against Millwall at Elland Road on Wednesday.
Leeds head coach Daniel Farke made one change to the starting lineup on 12 March, bringing in Rothwell to replace Ilia Gruev, as the Whites aimed to secure three points at home following their disappointing loss to Portsmouth.
Millwall’s Manor Solomon got the visitors off to a quick start, with Jake Cooper inadvertently scoring an own goal in the third minute.
However, it was Rothwell who caught the attention of Sky Sports pundit Jobi McAnuff, thanks to his impressive ball control throughout the match.
Rothwell shines in the first half
McAnuff, a former Jamaica international, was particularly impressed with Rothwell’s performance in the first half against Millwall.
He had previously called for the English midfielder to start, citing his composure on the ball.
The 43-year-old pundit praised Rothwell’s contribution, highlighting how his presence brought quality to Leeds’ midfield, especially when they dominated possession. At halftime, Leeds were leading 1-0.
On Sky Sports News (12 March, 17:54), McAnuff said: “Rothwell has been outstanding. I wanted him to start because he provides that extra quality in midfield, particularly when Leeds have control of the ball. He’s definitely had a bright start to this game.”
Farke’s pressure to secure a win
Leeds’ hopes of automatic promotion suffered a setback with their loss to Portsmouth at Fratton Park on 9 March. Though they were once favorites for promotion, their recent form has raised questions about their chances.
Anything less than automatic promotion will prompt 49ers Enterprises to reassess Farke’s future at the club. Despite the challenges posed by injuries this season, the German manager now has most of his squad available, leaving little room for further slip-ups.
The Peacocks must avoid dropping more points against Millwall and aim for a crucial home victory in the second half.
Leeds boast one of the strongest squads in the Championship, but recent performances have shown they may need reinforcements to succeed in the Premier League if they achieve promotion.
Farke faces another tough test against QPR on 15 March before the international break, with anything less than a perfect run potentially damaging the club’s aspirations.
