Interim Rangers manager Barry Ferguson insists he’s not thinking about taking the role permanently, despite a pivotal week ahead.
Rangers face Fenerbahce tomorrow night in the second leg of their Europa League last-16 tie, holding a 3-1 advantage thanks to goals from Cyriel Dessers and Vaclav Cerny in Istanbul last week.
Advancing to the quarter-finals would be a significant milestone in Ferguson’s managerial career, especially with a trip to Celtic Park looming on Sunday. It could be a defining week for the 47-year-old.
Should Ferguson find himself in the Europa League quarter-finals on Monday, along with a positive result at Parkhead, questions about his long-term future at Ibrox may arise. But Ferguson is adamant he’s not focused on that possibility: “To be honest, I’m not even thinking about it,” he said.
“I’m here for three months, and that’s where my focus lies. I’ve had a good start, apart from the first 20 minutes. Motherwell was far from good enough, but last week was solid. Still, I believe we can improve.
“I’m not looking ahead, despite what others may say. My job is to get Rangers winning consistently, and that’s my sole focus right now.”
The match kicks off tomorrow at 8pm as Rangers look to secure a spot in the next round, where they could face either Roma or Athletic Club.
