Leeds United have remained unbeaten at home in the Championship since September.
Millwall manager Alex Neil expressed frustration over the way his side conceded the first goal during their defeat at Elland Road.
The hosts made a strong start against the only other team, besides Burnley, to have won at Leeds this season.
Leeds opened the scoring in the third minute when Manor Solomon’s low cross deflected off Jake Cooper and, despite goalkeeper Lukas Jensen’s attempt to intervene, ended up in the back of the net.
A powerful late strike from Ao Tanaka sealed a 2-0 victory, lifting Leeds back to the top of the Championship.
Neil commented: “The manner of the first goal is frustrating. It’s highly unfortunate.
We need to regroup and ensure our heads don’t drop. When they score early, it changes the dynamic of the second half.”
Daniel Farke’s team, who hold the best home record in the Championship, had temporarily been overtaken by Sheffield United after Tuesday’s results.
However, their 15th home win of the season saw them move two points clear of the Blades and four ahead of third-placed Burnley.
“You have to give credit to Leeds,” Neil said. “They were very good tonight. They’ve been excellent at home—losing just once in 18 games—and rightly sit at the top.
This is the best I’ve seen them so far. If you manage to keep it 0-0 or score first, it becomes interesting, but we never reached that point.”
“Leeds have top-six quality across their defense, midfield, and attack. It’s no surprise they’re leading the league.”
Leeds will travel to Queens Park Rangers on Saturday for their final match before the international break.
