“Forest Fans’ Chant vs Ipswich Drops Major Hint at Tuchel Snub – You Won’t Believe What They Said
Thomas Tuchel is not exactly winning fans in Nottingham at the moment, with Forest supporters using Saturday’s 4-2 victory over Ipswich Town to voice their displeasure.
The lead-up to the Ipswich match was overshadowed by the announcement of Tuchel’s first England squad, and Forest fans were particularly upset by Morgan Gibbs-White’s omission.
However, it wasn’t just Gibbs-White who missed out—Callum Hudson-Odoi and Elliot Anderson were also left out of the squad by the German coach.
Tuchel suggested that Anderson might be considered a backup for England, as he would be training with the under-21s near the senior team.
But many Forest fans felt Anderson, who assisted Anthony Elanga’s first goal against Ipswich, deserved a place in the squad without question.
Yet, it was Gibbs-White who captured the attention of the away supporters.
During the match, they made their feelings known, singing about Gibbs-White and calling him “England’s number 10,” a clear message to Tuchel.
While some might argue that Forest fans wouldn’t mind their star players getting a break during the international break, the chanting indicated that they were much more invested in seeing Gibbs-White wear the England shirt.
It wasn’t just a reaction to the squad snub, though—Gibbs-White was at the heart of everything positive for Forest, despite not scoring himself.
His performance against Ipswich was a significant improvement compared to his showing in November, when he faced criticism from Forest fans.
Although Forest have been unbeaten against Ipswich in both league and cup this season, they hadn’t been convincing, but Gibbs-White’s display helped change that.
His assist for Jota Silva epitomized a perfect counter-attack under Nuno Espirito Santo, but Gibbs-White could have had even more from the other two good chances he created.
His nine passes into the final third showed the variety of positions he occupied, often dropping deeper, which helped Elanga find the space to break down the Ipswich defense.
Espirito Santo and Forest took all three points back to the City Ground, their first win since January, with Gibbs-White’s stellar performance at the heart of it all.
