“Wolves Fans Go Wild at St Mary’s After Epic Win – You Won’t Believe What They Were Chanting
Wolves took a significant step toward securing Premier League survival with a crucial 2-1 win over Southampton at St Mary’s.
Jorgen Strand Larsen’s header, assisted by Jean-Ricner Bellegarde, gave Wolves the lead in the first half.
The striker then doubled his tally early in the second half, finishing past goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale after another assist from Bellegarde.
Southampton responded with a goal from Paul Onuachu 15 minutes before the final whistle, which made for a tense finish, but Wolves held on for the important three points.
With Ipswich losing 4-2 to Nottingham Forest, Wolves are now nine points clear of the relegation zone, giving fans confidence that their Premier League status is secure for another season.
Chants from the Away End
At the start of the season, many feared Wolves might be relegated after Gary O’Neil’s side had only two wins from their first 16 games, leading to his dismissal.
Vitor Pereira took over with the daunting task of steering Wolves to safety. However, with five wins from 13 league matches, including this latest victory over Southampton, the team’s survival is now in their own hands.
Joe Cole has predicted Wolves will avoid relegation, and with a nine-point cushion, the fans share that belief.
After the win on the South Coast, Wolves supporters could be heard chanting, “We are staying up,” followed by chants in praise of Pereira, the manager behind their recovery.
How Many More Points to Survive?
While survival isn’t mathematically guaranteed, it would take a dramatic collapse for Wolves to lose their Premier League status.
Typically, 40 points are enough to stay safe, but with the current quality at the bottom of the table, three more wins from the remaining nine games should secure safety.
With Wolves already nine points ahead of the relegation zone and upcoming fixtures against West Ham and Ipswich, they are well-positioned to add to their points tally. Given the form of Leicester and Ipswich, it seems unlikely that either team will go on a strong run to escape the drop, and all three promoted clubs look set for relegation.
