Celtic’s performance was nothing short of forgettable and, frankly, unacceptable.
For the second consecutive Glasgow derby, Celtic fell to Rangers—this time at home, marking their first defeat of the Premiership season in front of their own fans.
Rangers took a deserved 2-0 lead into halftime, and it could have been even worse for Celtic. Much like the dismal performance at Ibrox after the New Year, Celtic struggled to cope with the opposition’s press and aggression.
It’s worth noting that this Rangers team had played in the Europa League on Thursday, even going into extra time against Fenerbahce. Despite the fatigue, they outclassed Celtic in every aspect.
Nicolas Kuhn Slammed as Celtic Fall to Rangers
Not long ago, Nicolas Kuhn was considered a Player of the Year contender, but that status has now faded dramatically.
While Daizen Maeda’s excellent form has been a factor, Celtic’s overall performance was shockingly poor across the board.
Kuhn, in particular, has looked off the pace since the turn of the year, and pundits Neil Lennon, Kris Boyd, and Chris Sutton were vocal in their criticism during the Sky Sports broadcast of the match (16/03/25).
The trio described Kuhn as “really poor” and “sloppy,” with manager Brendan Rodgers opting to substitute him at halftime for Adam Idah.
“This is an interesting change because I think Brendan will want to bypass the press and go longer,” said Lennon. “That’s why Idah is coming on, for the physicality.”
Boyd responded: “You mentioned that Nicolas Kuhn was due a big performance. He was really poor in the first half.”
Lennon agreed: “He was poor. Sloppy. Lacking belief and speed. To be fair, Yilmaz dealt with him really well. It wasn’t just Kuhn, the whole team was lethargic for the first 20 minutes. Rangers took the game to Celtic, and they weren’t up to it.”
Sutton added: “Nicolas Kuhn didn’t perform in that first half. He was miles off it.”
Kuhn’s Disappointing Stats
Kuhn’s performance against Rangers was a far cry from the player he was earlier in the season. His struggles mean he should no longer be a guaranteed starter, which is a stark contrast to his form in the first half of the campaign.
While Celtic are still on course to win the title, performances like this should not be rewarded with another start.
In a game that will be quickly forgotten, Kuhn was rated just 6.11 by WhoScored for his lackluster showing against Rangers.
