“I felt…” “Dan Burn’s Surprising Reaction After Becoming Newcastle’s Wembley Hero – You Won’t Believe What He Said

Newcastle United’s Wembley hero, Dan Burn, admitted he felt “numb” after etching his name into Geordie folklore with a powerful header at Wembley.

It was Burn’s goal that sparked the celebrations for Newcastle as they defeated Premier League leaders Liverpool 2-1 to secure their first trophy in 70 years. Despite the monumental achievement, Burn appeared stunned as he stood with his Carabao Cup winner’s medal around his neck and the official man of the match award in hand.

Burn shared his thoughts with Chronicle Live, saying, “I feel really strange – I feel numb. I don’t have any emotion. It’s weird because I want to feel something, but it just hasn’t sunk in yet. Hopefully, it will.”

He continued, “I’m just so proud to be from Newcastle and to be part of this team. I’ve said it before, it would have been such a shame not to have won something with this group. To do it, we had to put on a perfect performance against Liverpool.”

Burn also reflected on how the half-time break came at the right moment for Newcastle, allowing the players to regroup after their 1-0 lead. “I think it did come at a good time, yeah,” he said. “But the good thing was we had the experience of playing in these big games and handling the pressure.”

He added, “I thought we saw the game out really well. It wouldn’t have been a Newcastle performance without making it nervous. We had to do our bit there. But even the lads who came on were brilliant. The amount of work the staff put in for our game plan was immense, and when we stick to it, we do well. A lot of credit goes to them, especially the gaffer.”

For the Magpies, this victory marks the start of what they hope will be a new era of trophies at St James’ Park, and they are determined not to wait another seven decades for the next one.

Burn said, “I never wanted to say it, but 70 years felt like a bit of a burden. That pressure to be the team to break that ceiling. Now we know we can do it. Hopefully, this is the first of many.”

He added, “Since the new owners and the manager came in, we’ve really focused on winning trophies. And I think that gives us the confidence to push for more in the future.”
