Wolves striker Matheus Cunha has been called up to the Brazil national team for their upcoming World Cup Qualifiers against Colombia and Argentina.
Despite a recent suspension from Wolves following a straight red card in the FA Cup against Bournemouth, the 25-year-old has earned his place in the national squad thanks to a standout season.
The former Atletico Madrid forward has netted 15 goals across all competitions, including 13 in the Premier League, playing a key role in helping his team fight for survival.
Cunha, who once idolized Brazilian legend Neymar, hopes to make his first international appearance since Brazil’s 2-0 loss to Uruguay in October 2024.
There’s also a possibility he could play alongside Wolves teammate Andre, who has also been called up for the qualifiers. Cunha is determined to honor his manager’s trust.

Brazil’s attacking lineup is packed with world-class talent, including Real Madrid stars Vinicius Jr. and Rodrigo.
However, despite the stiff competition for spots, Cunha is confident and promises to meet expectations.
He’s determined to make his mark and repay coach Dorival Junior for his faith.
In an interview with Infobae, Cunha shared: “I was proud of his words. Getting praise from the coach boosts your confidence and makes you even happier.
I’ll do my best to live up to those expectations and show it on the field wearing the national team shirt.”

Though Cunha has yet to score in 11 appearances for Brazil, he’s hungrier than ever to prove himself at the international level.
Cunha Won’t Face Messi Due to Injury
In the lead-up to the qualifiers, Lionel Messi has been ruled out with a ‘low-grade’ muscle injury, which will prevent him from playing against Uruguay and Brazil.
The 37-year-old sustained the injury during Inter Miami’s 2-1 win over Atlanta United in MLS.
Although Cunha would have relished the chance to face off against the legendary Messi, he now has the opportunity to prove himself on the international stage.
The Wolves striker will be eager to score his first goal for Brazil, and there would be no better way to do it than against fierce rivals Argentina.
