The Magpies are fortunate to have secured Isak, who became their most expensive signing ever in August 2022 for £63 million. So far, that hefty investment has proven to be a wise one, with Isak continuing to shine this season.

Tottenham’s Dominic Solanke still ranks Haaland as the top striker, sharing his thoughts when asked to compare the two for Sky Sports’ Premier League YouTube channel.
“Right now, Isak’s on an incredible run,” Solanke said. “But Haaland’s still putting up impressive numbers this season too.
I’d still put him at number one, just because he’s still among the top scorers, and we’re not making a huge deal of it.”
“It’s tough, though, because Isak’s in fantastic form,” he added.
Solanke also offered his assessment of Isak as a player: “I think he’s very good. On the ball, he’s excellent, bringing more than just goals. He’s still got more to offer. He’s a great striker.”
Newcastle’s Priority: Extending Isak’s Contract
While Haaland is ahead of Isak in terms of goals this season—29 in 39 games compared to Isak’s 23 in 33 games—Solanke is right to highlight that Isak offers more than just goal-scoring.
His dribbling, skills, and speed make him a well-rounded forward, adding extra dimensions to his game.
That’s why Newcastle chairman Yasir Al-Rumayyan is keen to keep hold of Isak, especially as the club looks to retain their top scorer amid interest from big clubs like Arsenal, Liverpool, and Barcelona.
Instead of selling Isak this summer, Newcastle aim to extend his contract. Securing a new deal is crucial, but it will likely depend on the club’s qualification for the Champions League and the financial terms offered to the striker.
