‘Clear’ – Fulham boss believes Crystal Palace midfielder should have seen red in FA Cup defeat
Fulham manager Marco Silva believes that Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton should have been sent off in their 3-0 FA Cup quarter-final loss on Saturday.
Wharton, who earned a call-up to the England U21 squad during the international break, was booked for a foul on Willian in the 14th minute. Moments later, Rodrigo Muniz went down after accusing Wharton of kicking out at him.
However, referee Darren England chose not to show a second yellow card, and Palace went on to win comfortably.
Silva told ITV, “For me, it’s clear—it’s a second yellow card. But we are used to these situations.”
“I’d rather say we were unlucky, but it’s a recurring theme for us.”
“Of course, VAR can’t change the decision, but there are plenty of eyes on the pitch. The linesman has the angles, and so does the fourth official. It was definitely a clear second yellow.”
“It would have had a huge impact on the game, but it always seems harder to spot when it’s against us.”
“We’ve been unfortunate in these situations, and let’s hope it balances out by the end of the season.”
