“‘Completely absurd decisions’ – Radrizzani criticized for making poor choices following Leeds United’s relegation

Leeds United are currently second in the Championship, tied on points with third-placed Burnley and just two points behind leaders Sheffield United.

The Whites are pushing for a Premier League return, two years after their relegation. This occurred during Andrea Radrizzani’s ownership of the club.

In July 2023, 49ers Enterprises took over Leeds United, having previously acquired a minority stake before purchasing the remaining shares. Just a month before selling his stake in Leeds, Radrizzani invested in Serie B club Sampdoria.

Former Sampdoria midfielder Loris Boni has expressed dissatisfaction with the club’s progress under its current ownership, voicing his concerns to Sampdoria News.

Boni criticized Radrizzani’s handling of Sampdoria, using Leeds’ relegation at the end of the 2022/23 season as an example of poor management.

While Boni acknowledged Radrizzani’s role in saving the Italian club from bankruptcy, he questioned the motivations behind certain decisions made under the current ownership.

“In the 2022/23 season, Leeds were relegated and sold by Mr. Radrizzani. After such a failure, management mistakes and questionable human choices should have been avoided,” Boni said.

“His arrival in Genoa was an admirable gesture because it saved the club, but then what? Amateur management, with people working for themselves, supported by agents who brought in players with poor technical skills.

In England, when something fails, the word resignation exists – but no one seems to be asking for it.”

Sampdoria are currently 17th in Serie B, level on points with 18th-placed AC Reggiana 1919.

Boni continued, “Here, it’s all about protecting seats and salaries… but if you don’t deliver, an owner should step in before closing a company. The players? They make me sad.

It feels like watching a lost flock on the pitch, with no leaders to guide them in the right direction. When you’re sinking, you need the self-esteem to try and get out of quicksand.”

“Now, drastic intervention could make things worse and lead to a historic relegation for Sampdoria.

I have no faith in this coach, who inspires nothing in this team. They need to talk and perhaps challenge each other to change their mentality. This is their last chance for hope…”

Not quite the success Radrizzani had hoped for at Sampdoria.
