Wolves reach contract agreement with £6.7m defender after Aston Villa injury setback.
Wolves have secured the long-term future of promising centre-back Yerson Mosquera.
Wolverhampton Wanderers have announced that Mosquera, who started the first five Premier League matches of the season before suffering a serious knee injury against Aston Villa, has signed a new extended contract.
Despite his challenging setback, which has kept him sidelined for over six months, the club views the Colombian as an important player for the future.
Mosquera is expected to make his return in the summer and could feature early in the 2025/26 season, with the hope that Wolves remain in the Premier League.
The new deal sees Mosquera’s contract extended until June 2030, with the option for a further year, replacing the previous end date of June 2026.
Currently valued at £6.7 million by Transfermarkt, the 22-year-old remains determined to succeed at Wolves and believes he can become an integral part of the squad.
“I’m really happy to stay with Wolves,” Mosquera said. “It’s a great opportunity for me to recover and have another chance to play here.
It was an easy decision because, from the very beginning, I wanted to stay. I’m committed to renewing my contract because I want to play for Wolves.”
He added, “I need to stay focused and careful, given the severity of my injury, but I feel confident and good, and I’ll take the time necessary to fully recover.
I’m extremely grateful to the club for giving me this opportunity. I know it’s not easy given my situation, but their belief in me is what matters most.”

Wolves head coach Vitor Pereira expressed his delight at securing Mosquera’s future, noting that when he arrived at Molineux, the team was thin on central defensive options—a gap highlighted by previous manager Gary O’Neil.
Pereira strengthened the defence in the winter with the additions of Emmanuel Agbadou and Nasser Djiga, though Agbadou has been the only one ready to make an immediate impact.
The manager is eager to integrate Mosquera into his plans and believes the young defender’s qualities are a perfect fit for his tactical approach.
“Yerson has all the traits I look for in a central defender—aggression, strength, speed, and composure on the ball,” Pereira said. “I have no doubt he will fit into my system.
Even though he’s injured, he continues to bring energy to his teammates and is always sharing positivity. He’s a leader on and off the pitch, and I’m really happy for him and for us.”
