Ipswich may have found the Premier League’s new Alexander-Arnold
The past few years have been a wild ride for Ipswich Town.
Under Kieran McKenna’s leadership, the team has risen from mid-table in League One to the Premier League for the first time in twenty years.
While this meteoric rise has felt like a fairy tale, this season has served as a harsh reminder of the challenges that come with the top flight.
That said, even though it looks like the Tractor Boys will be relegated back to the Championship next season, they have the squad to make a swift return, including a player who could be the next big thing for England—someone who could become their version of Trent Alexander-Arnold.
Ipswich’s Potential England Stars
Before focusing on the star who might be the next Trent, let’s take a look at a few Ipswich players who could eventually earn a spot in the England squad, starting with Omari Hutchinson.
While it may seem like a long shot for now, there are reasons to believe the former Chelsea player could one day wear the England shirt.
Despite being just 21 years old, Hutchinson has already established himself as a key player for a Premier League side.
Versatile in his positions, he’s contributed to 22 goal involvements in 78 appearances for Ipswich.
Moreover, he’s already a part of England’s U21 squad, where he started in their recent match against Portugal and has notched four goal involvements in just four appearances.
The next potential England star is Liam Delap, who is also part of the U21 squad and has contributed five goal involvements in 12 matches.
He’s been one of the Premier League’s most exciting strikers, scoring 12 goals and assisting two in 30 games this season, even while playing for a bottom-three team.
But Delap isn’t the only Ipswich player with potential to earn an England cap. There’s another first-teamer who has been with the club since their League One days and could be their version of Trent.
Ipswich’s Own Trent
While Ipswich boasts a solid defensive line this season, including players like Dara O’Shea and Axel Tuanzebe, when it comes to a player most similar to Trent, there’s only one clear answer: Leif Davis.
Now, we’re not claiming the 25-year-old—referred to as “unbelievable” by journalist Harvey Davies—is as good as the Liverpool star, but there are clear similarities between the two, and Davis is undeniably talented.
The key similarity is their ability to push forward and deliver dangerous balls into the attacking third.
Since joining Ipswich, Davis has made 118 appearances, scoring six goals and providing 38 assists, averaging a goal involvement every 2.7 games.
In comparison, Trent Alexander-Arnold has scored 22 goals and delivered 87 assists in 349 appearances, averaging a goal involvement every 3.2 games.
Davis isn’t just good enough to help Ipswich bounce back to the Premier League next season; he’s also talented enough to earn a spot in an England squad one day and could well become the left-sided version of Trent in the future.
