Daniel Farke’s decision to maintain a smaller squad at Leeds United has generally helped foster team harmony, as fewer players are left frustrated by a lack of game time. However, no matter how streamlined the squad is, some players will inevitably feel sidelined.
After Leeds’ recent win over Preston, Largie Ramazani sparked intrigue with a cryptic social media post, having remained on the bench throughout. He’s not alone in his frustration.
Mateo Joseph also appears to be slipping down the pecking order. Despite his potential, he currently sits behind Joel Piroe and Patrick Bamford, who was preferred as a substitute in the Preston match. That same lack of opportunity led Joe Gelhardt to seek more minutes on loan at Hull City in January.
Another player facing uncertainty is Max Wober—even after recovering from injury.
Max Wober Opens Up on Challenging Season
Wober has made only eight appearances for Leeds this season, having undergone two surgeries to address ongoing knee problems. Despite being back to full fitness, he remained an unused substitute against Preston.
Speaking in the club’s official matchday programme, Wober admitted that this season has tested him, especially under Farke. Still, he recognizes that setbacks are part of the sport.
“There have been some tough times with injuries,” he said. “You don’t always feel like you can contribute or show what you’re capable of on the pitch. But it’s part of the game—I understand that.”
Looking Ahead: Wober’s Next Move
Back in the summer of 2023, Wober activated a release clause negotiated by former sporting director Victor Orta, allowing him to move to Bundesliga side Borussia Mönchengladbach on loan. His decision was motivated by a desire to secure a place in Austria’s Euro 2024 squad.
This summer, he faces a similar dilemma. With the 2026 World Cup on the horizon and playing time still limited under Farke, Wober may need to consider another move to boost his international prospects.
Unlike other players whose futures may hinge on whether Leeds secure promotion, Wober’s situation is more clear-cut. If the opportunity arises to join a top-flight club—whether Leeds are in the Premier League or not—he’s likely to take it.
