Tottenham Set to Sack Ange Postecoglou Regardless of Europa League Outcome, Says Former Scout
Ange Postecoglou is reportedly facing the sack at Tottenham, even if the club secures the Europa League title, according to former club scout Mick Brown.
Brown, who previously served as chief scout for Manchester United and Blackburn and maintains strong ties within the football world, told Football Insider that Spurs chairman Daniel Levy has already made up his mind behind the scenes.
The only decision left is whether Postecoglou will be allowed to finish the season, with just six Premier League matches remaining.
Levy has also begun evaluating candidates to succeed the 59-year-old, as the club plans its next steps post-Postecoglou.
This follows earlier reporting by Football Insider, which named Postecoglou as one of the leading candidates for dismissal at the end of the season. The manager’s position has reportedly become untenable due to a fractured relationship with both fans and club officials.
Daniel Levy Lining Up Replacements for Postecoglou
Brown revealed on 7 April that Postecoglou breached a “golden rule” at Tottenham through recent conflicts with the fanbase. Drawing on his experience working alongside legendary managers like Ron Atkinson and Sir Alex Ferguson, Brown stated that Levy is already preparing for a managerial change.
“There’s been pressure on Postecoglou all season,” Brown said. “There’s been constant speculation about his future, and it now seems inevitable that he’ll be leaving.
“Levy’s already made his decision – it’s essentially a done deal behind closed doors. The only uncertainty is when it will be officially announced.
“He might be allowed to finish the season and possibly win the Europa League, but even that won’t be enough to save him.
“They’ve already started searching for a new manager and have a clear direction in mind for the future. With Levy’s track record of high managerial turnover, he knows what he’s doing – now it’s just a matter of timing.”
Iraola and Silva Among Spurs’ Targets
As Spurs prepare for life after Postecoglou, two names have emerged as potential successors: Bournemouth’s Andoni Iraola and Fulham’s Marco Silva.
Brown previously tipped Iraola as Tottenham’s top choice, following a strong campaign that has seen Bournemouth rise to 10th place in the Premier League, just three points from European qualification with seven matches remaining.
Marco Silva has also impressed at Fulham, operating successfully on a limited budget and catching the eye of the Spurs leadership.
