Despite the challenge, Wilder remains defiant. Following the loss to Plymouth, he addressed his squad directly on the pitch—a moment that drew comparisons to Phil Brown’s infamous halftime talk at Manchester City.
“It wasn’t a Phil Brown moment,” Wilder told the Yorkshire Post. “It was a calm conversation where I told the players we have to take ownership for letting a strong position slip. We haven’t been good enough over the past three games.”
He added: “People are saying our season is over—it’s not. We’ve just lost the advantage we had.”
Can Sheffield United Bounce Back Against Cardiff?
After three consecutive defeats, there’s naturally speculation around team selections and tactics. Wilder kept the same lineup against Millwall, then made five changes at Plymouth—neither yielding results.
Looking ahead to their Good Friday clash with Cardiff, Wilder is sticking by his core philosophy: “Confidence is huge, and pressure is a privilege. That’s not an excuse—it’s part of football. We’ve just failed to do the basics well enough in both boxes.
“I’m not about to tear apart the team’s structure. It’s earned us over 80 points and an average of more than two per game. While we might make minor tactical adjustments or changes in selection, I still fully believe in this squad.”
Leeds Must Stay Focused Against Oxford United
Leeds will play their match against Oxford United later on Good Friday, which means they could be under extra pressure depending on earlier results from Burnley and Sheffield United.
Still, with promotion in sight, Daniel Farke’s men must stay locked in. Captain Ethan Ampadu, in particular, will need to step up and lead by example to ensure Leeds finish the campaign strong—unlike the disappointment of last season.
